Welcome to ABC Arts' monthly book column. Each month, we present a shortlist of new releases read and recommended by The Bookshelf's Kate Evans and The Book Show's Claire Nichols and Sarah L'Estrange — alongside recommendations from freelance writer and critic Declan Fry. All four read voraciously and widely, and the only guidelines we give them are: make it a new release; make it something you think is great. Newcastle Elementary student Leon Creel's short story "Raid on the Creek" was chosen as one of the short stories published in the "I Am Texas" book this fall by the iWRITE Literacy Organization and The Bryan Museum. Creel was the youngest in the grade 3-8 writing winners pool and one of 1,000 students to be featured in the book. "I Am Texas" is part of a series from The New York Times' author and illustrator team of Brad Meltzer and Chris Eliopoulos titled "Ordinary Change the World." The project encouraged children to share their Texas stories through writing and art while using their voice to preserve Texas history for the next generation. "We hope to inspire kids to become true leaders and the heroes in their own stories," Meltzer said in a press release. "We are excited to release I Am Texas with 1,000 kids this fall." Jody Houser is a writer based in Los Angeles. Houser decided she wanted to be a writer when she was eight years old and never looked back. For better or worse, no one ever suggested that she stop. She earned her MFA in Creative Writing at Emerson College in Boston, where she completed her master's thesis in screenwriting and was a winner of the Rod Parker Fellowship for Playwriting. Starting in 2006, Houser began experimenting with webcomics. Her first professional comics work was published in 2012. She became a full-time freelance writer in 2016. Abstract The radiation-induced damages in bio-molecules are ubiquitous processes in radiotherapy and radio-biology, and critical to space projects. In this study, we present a precise quantification of the fragmentation mechanisms of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and the molecules surrounding DNA such as oxygen and water under non-equilibrium conditions using the first-principle calculations based on density functional theory (DFT). Our results reveal the structural stability of DNA bases and backbone that withstand up to a combined threshold of charge and hydrogen abstraction owing to simultaneously direct and indirect ionization processes. We show the hydrogen contents of the molecules significantly control the stability in the presence of radiation. An extensive list is required to collect the most significant British authors of the 20th century. In fact, those consequential years were brimming with literary greats from the world over, emerging from the Americas to Asia. However, a list of very familiar names springs to mind when concentrating on Britain, from Virginia Woolf to George Orwell and Daphne Du Maurier to Alan Moore. Elsewhere, two of the most influential writers of the century came in the form of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, Oxbridge friends and masters of the high fantasy genre, who breathed life into what is now one of the most multifaceted and treasured forms of fiction.  It is with the latter that we get our story today.
