Creative Copywriter - Pedestrian TV

Bossy. is a Melbourne-based copywriting studio that specialises in tone of voice development, website copy, digital content, social copy and anything else with words in it. When we're not writing copy, we can be found chatting over at The Bossy. Type podcast, and teaching our course, Bossy. Copy College.

We're also home to the Bossy. Supergroup, which is really just a fun way of saying that we're a team of freelance strategists, writers and editors — each with an individual writing style, a certain copywriting skill or specialty, or loads of experience within a particular industry.

But while the majority of our writers work freelance, our Director + Head Writer Alyce is quickly realising that another in-house copywriter would be very handy. And here we are.

WHAT WE NEED:

We're looking for an experienced, talented, all-rounder creative copywriter to join Alyce (Director + Head Writer), Asheda (Studio Manager + Copywriter) and Anna (Creative Copywriter) as part of our in-house team.

Heads up !!
This is currently a part-time role, but may increase to full-time soon for the right person. The role is based in Melbourne, and you'll work with us from our brand new office in Cremorne which just so happens to be surrounded by cafes and wine bars.

This magical copywriting unicorn will:

  • Come armed with 3+ years experience in a similar role, preferably in a creative studio or freelance environment
  • Have a Bossy.-esque natural writing style: cheeky, conversational and creative. (We'd recommend you read our website + social captions to get a feel.)
  • Be a pro at switching writing styles to suit clients and writing to various brand voices. Split personalities welcome
  • Be highly creative. Bossy. values creativity and individual writing styles first and foremost, and has a creative approach to all things concepts and copy
  • Preferably have experience in tone of voice: developing concepts / characters, compiling guidelines as per the Bossy. process, and executing voices across platforms
  • Know a thing or two about conversion and/or SEO copywriting, including social ad copy, email opens and sales-focussed (but not boring) website copy
  • Be confident in editing their own work, and others'
  • Happily work on a range of projects — big or small, beauty products to real estate firms, packing copy to press releases… they aren't above anything
  • Be experienced and willing to juggle multiple projects, manage changes and jump onto  last-minute tasks
  • Thrive working on their own (eg. produce impressive work; easily manage own deadlines) AND in a team (eg. help where needed; collaborate on projects; be a general team player)
  • Have an upbeat, confident attitude and a proactive, motivated nature
  • Come armed with a sense of humour — in emails and life — and a penchant for gifs
  • Possess all the usual must-haves, in particular: spectacular time management, attention to detail, written + verbal communication and (obvious, but here we go) spelling and grammar skills

Does this person exist?

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

The short answer: You'll be an all-rounder copywriting star who'll help with all sorts of projects that walk through the door. The long answer:

  • Write copy + content for project- and retainer-based clients (some fun, some not-so-fun) including tone of voice guidelines, website copy, email sequences, e-newsletters, social copy, ad copy, packaging copy, blog content ad-hoc tasks, and anything else word-y
  • Assist in building brands + developing voices, and/or executing brand voices developed by Alyce and Anna across all platforms
  • Assist with other brand strategy tasks where needed eg. naming, tagline development
  • Embody Bossy.'s cheeky, confident tone to write killer sample copy, and create pitches to secure new clients and projects
  • Advise on sales/conversion/SEO copy where possible, and aim to improve email open rates, click-throughs and sales
  • Work closely with Asheda, our Studio Manager + Copywriter, on each project and collaborate with other supergroupies, where needed
  • Communicate with clients in-person, or via phone, email or video, and attend / host workshops and meetings
  • Edit a range of copywriting projects, and manage client feedback changes (with a smile on your face, ha)
  • Other ad-hoc tasks where needed eg. Bossy. social posts; assisting with the Bossy. Copy College course content; copywriting for marketing activities

TO APPLY:

Email Alyce at alyce@bossycreative.com with:

  • Your CV
  • A brief explanation (love letter) on why you're a good fit for Bossy. and what you can bring to the table
  • A variety of brand copywriting samples eg. website copy, emails, packaging copy, social ad copy, etc. (While we'd love to write blogs all day long, unfortunately this isn't the case… yet.)
  • Answers to the below screening Qs
    • How would you describe your writing style?

    • What type of copywriting are you best at (eg. About Us pages, beauty copywriting), and why?

    • What has been your favourite copywriting project, and why?

    • What is your expected salary?

Applications close 27 February 2022, but we're looking to hire ASAP — if we find the right person, we will likely hire them before the closing date, so don't think about it too long. Immediate start preferred. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete 3 short writing tasks. While we'd love to respond to everyone personally, unfortunately only these shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
