UNLV Opera Workshop II presents Roman Fever and The Stronger at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 and 10 in the Dr. Arturo Rando-Grillot Recital Hall.

Based on the short story by Edith Wharton, Roman Fever (music by Robert Ward, libretto by Roger Brunyate) explores a chance encounter in Rome between two widows with secrets in their past.

Adapted from the play by August Strindberg, The Stronger (music by Hugo Weisgall, libretto by Richard Hart) is a soprano monodrama about a woman who encounters a friend she believes had an affair with her husband.

This double bill of psychological dramas is directed by Linda Lister and conducted by Darryl Cooper. Roman Fever features Abigale Hennings, Tyler Urbano, Giada Barney-Sink, Karol Avila, Dongmin Byeon, Claudia Affan, Andreea Cretu, Abbie McConnell, and Alonna Younger. The Stronger stars Emily Dirks. Spencer Baker is the pianist for Roman Fever; Darryl Cooper is the pianist for The Stronger.

Estelle meets her friend Lisa in a bar while she's finishing her Christmas shopping. She talks about her family, revealing that she knows that Lisa was in love with Harold, the man she (Estelle) married. As Estelle leaves, she decides that she is, after all, the stronger of the two.
