The Storyteller: Coline Monsarrat

Coline Monsarrat breathes life into the past with her vibrant characters and vivid storytelling. Her dedication to blending humor with historical accuracy makes the Aria & Liam series a treasure for young readers seeking both adventure and knowledge.

Coline Monsarrat shares the behind-the-scenes from her latest book, "I am fascinated about how history often blends legends with reality. The enigmatic story of King Arthur and Merlin, a blend of myth and obscured truth, serves as a canvas. This book is not just a retelling of a famous legend; it's a narrative about the pitfalls of entitlement. My goal was to show that simply believing life owes you success, without the willingness to strive for it, leads to missed opportunities. Through this legend, I want to convey that the belief in being owed something by the world without personal effort is a sure path to unfulfillment. This book is a reflection on the importance of hard work and the danger of entitlement, teaching that true accomplishment comes from dedication, not just desire."

A Journey Through Time: The Aria & Liam Series

Aria & Liam is more than a book series; it's a time-traveling adventure where history unfolds with a humorous twist. Aria and Liam face many challenges that test their bravery, wit, and friendship. As they confront unforeseen obstacles and square off against formidable enemies, their bond grows stronger, and their hilarious banter adds an extra layer of excitement to their exploits. Can these intrepid adventurers accomplish their missions and stay united in the face of danger? Only time will tell!

Each book stands alone, allowing readers to journey through time in any order, uncovering history's treasures through laughter and friendship.

Nate Powell To Speak About New Graphic Novel At WordsWorth Books

"Fall Through," the forthcoming graphic novel from Little Rock native and National Book Award-winner Nate Powell, drops on Feb. 6, and it wouldn't be a proper launch without a talk and signing at WordsWorth Books.

Powell's appearance at WordsWorth isn't until Feb. 23, but former Arkansas Times editor Lindsey Millar will be moderating, so it should be well worth the wait. RSVP for the 6:30 p.M. Event here. Also, if you happen to be in Northwest Arkansas, Powell is coming to the Fayetteville Public Library on Feb. 24 at 2 p.M. More about that here.

A love letter to the Arkansas punk scene and the DIY ethic, "Fall Through" has already been lauded by figures like Fugazi's Guy Picciotto, who praised the book for the way it "captures so many of the complex dynamics of collaboration that are foundational to the communities we grew up in and continue to inhabit." Here's a full description from the publisher:

At first glance, Diamond Mine seems to have emerged in 1979 as Arkansas's first punk band. Instead, this quartet is revealed to be interdimensional travelers from 1994, guided — largely against their will — by vocalist Diana's powerful spell embedded into their song "Fall Through."

As Diamond Mine tours the country, each performance of the song triggers a fracturing of space-time perceptible only by the band members as they're transported to alternate worlds in which they've never existed, but their band's legend has. That is, until Jody, the band's bassist and the story's protagonist, finds herself disrupting Diana's sorcery, even at the cost of her own beloved work and legacy. While some band members perpetually seek the free space offered by the underground punk scene to escape from their mundane or traumatic lives, others work toward it as a means of expression, connection, and growth—even if that means eventually outgrowing Sisyphean patterns and inevitably outgrowing their beloved band-family altogether.

Master cartoonist Nate Powell has crafted a graphic novel that serves as both a brilliant example of circular storytelling, reminiscent of Netflix's Russian Doll, and a love letter to the spirit of punk communities. Fall Through will stay with the reader long after they've turned the last page, asking the impossible question: Would you burn down everything you love in order to save it all?

You can pre-order "Fall Through" here.
